"Other than programming, music actually is art because it requires something you can never learn: being gifted."

This is one of the stupidest things I've had the displeasure of reading lately.

A) making music requires absolutely no god-given talent or gift, whatsoever. Every aspect of it, from sight-reading to ear training to technical performance to interpretation can be and IS taught to people. Can some be more naturally inclined than others? Yes, obviously. But every single skill involved can absolutely be trained. No prolific musician would ever indicate otherwise, go ahead and google some inspirational quotes; not a single musician will ever ascribe their success or ability to talent, I guarantee it.

Then we come to B) that programming ALSO could carry with it those with supernatural ability compared to their common peer. There are definitely those that grasp "thinking programmatically" more easily than others. Does this not therefore immediately refute your very point?

So the statement reads something like: "Programming isn't art because ".

Rodrigo, first: how on earth can you compare making music with making a computer program? Other than programming, music actually is art because it requires something you can never learn: being gifted.

As some have already correctly suggested here, programming isn't an art, it's a craft. Don't mix having a passion for something up with being talented.

Second: You're a person that omits curly brackets. Why do you even remotely think about considering the stuff YOU produce as art?
